Artefact One - Mapping (Part 1)

This first artefact will look at extended mapping onto basic textures that are already applied to objects in a scene. These maps will include bump, specular and reflective to enhance the scene in the name of realism. For example if you were to look at an object in a room there would be shadows in and around the object and also light will be bouncing off it at angles giving it colour and also a shine. Another thing that will be looked upon in this first artefact is memory saving versus visual output, thus optimising the 3D visualised scene whilst saving memory space.

Above Is the scene that has been created. The floor, wall and flowerpot has been simply textured the resolution has not been changed and 3DS MAX foilage has been added to create a focal point. There are also simple omni lights to create a shadow from the plant onto the wooden floor. The scene does look bland the textures look flat, from here various mapping will be added step by step to make the scene look a bit more realistic.

Below the rendered scene has an additional bump map on all the objects, thus bringing out the flat textures. This has worked very well especially on the wall where it has brought out the cracks and likewise the grain on the floor has depth. A good start for realistic production!
